About us

Liz Murphy Design was founded in 1998, concentrating on the design and management of residential renovations. Not one to rely on current styles and trends of the day, we have no trademark design style but rather strive to create living spaces that are uniquely situated to the homeowner.

We concentrate on larger scale projects that most often involve renovation, to create new and improved spaces that reflect today’s needs for more open or multipurpose spaces that can be adapted to the family dynamic. We do not redecorate, but more appropriately, redefine space.

Liz Murphy Design has tackled projects ranging from converting awkward smaller bathrooms to delightful spaces with modern amenities, to changing old kitchens into ones that become the focal point of the home. We also delight in whole house projects where we can bring the appropriate resources together to transform a house into a home.

Liz

Liz Murphy has experienced a longstanding career in design. After completing a BFA in Interior Design and later, an MBA, she found her passion for design in both the commercial and residential sectors. When she moved to Pittsburgh twenty-one years ago, Liz built a design practice showcasing her passion for interior design and her strengths in team building and project management.

Liz is an avid cook, likes to entertain friends with elaborate dinners, and has practiced Tai Chi for many years.  She and her husband, Mike, enjoy taking cycling trips to far reaching destinations and making gourmet pizzas in their outdoor pizza oven. She is especially proud of her Boston roots, her 42-year career in interior design, her long-time participation as a Board Member of Sweetwater Center for the Arts in Sewickley, and her grandson Remy.

Jessica

Jessica joined Liz Murphy Design in 2012, to support Liz with bookkeeping and project purchasing services. A photographer with a passion for vintage styling, Jessica quickly absorbed a multitude of disciplines that are inherent to our practice. She has an innate sense of proportion and color, can envision a finished space where one does not yet exist, and develops well-thought space planning solutions. Over the years, she has become proficient with AutoCAD and SketchUp, which bring our designs to life. Her detail-oriented perspective has enabled her to now take on a more comprehensive role, as Design Associate and Project Manager at Liz Murphy Design.

When she isn’t renovating her 1894 farmhouse with her husband, you can find her volunteering with the children’s ministry at her church, enjoying Tuesday nights with her nephew, and combining her love of travel with her interest in photography.
